Day 37 (Thursday, November 4, 2021)

Costs for the Day are in the Table below:

I slept in this morning and then did some writing, packing, and online Christmas shopping (Cost: 91.06 USD). We packed up enough clothes and climbing gear for a 4 day climbing and camping trip with Amanda and her friend Bruno to Spain.

At 10:30am we biked over to the Lagos train station with all of our gear. Fortunately, it is not very far away. We purchased tickets from Lagos to Estombar where Amanda would pick us up with her car. (Tickets: 9.8 EUR for 2 people).

The Estombar train station is quite small so we walked across the street behind the station to Jardim Cafe to wait for Amanda. The cafe is a nice little place. Amanda arrived and joined us so we ordered three coffees and two cheeseburgers. (Cost: 13.60 EUR)

When we left the cafe, we stopped for some gas (41.42 EUR) which we covered since Amanda was doing the driving. We also purchased some snacks – Red Bull and Chocolate Sticks (Cost: 3.65 EUR). Then we picked up Bruno from Portimao. After that, Amanda drove us about 2 hours to Puebla de Guzman in Spain.

There, we bought some groceries (Cost: 19.11 EUR) and then headed to the Ermita de la Virgen de la Pena where we would camp and climb. The church is quite beautiful and is right next to the crag. You can camp on the covered alcove of the church which is protected from the wind and elements. There is also running water which makes camping more comfortable.

We lead climbed two sport routes behind the church (one route is the photo on the left below) and then setup camp for the night in the alcove.
