Day 72 (Thursday, December 9, 2021)
Cost for the Day are in the Table below:
Today, I woke up at 6:30am and went for my morning run and calisthenics workout. Here is what I did:
Ran 1.28 Miles (0.6 Miles to the Calisthenics Park and back), 3 sets of 10 pullups to chest level or as high as possible, 3 sets of 10 explosive pull-ups, 3 sets of 15 Australian pull-ups (basically bodyweight rows from the rings), 3 sets of 10 negative muscle ups, 3 sets of 12 dips from the bar, 3 sets of 15 explosive bar dips, 3 sets of 10 jumping muscle ups, 3 sets of 10 toes to bar reps, 3 sets of hanging L sits holding for 20 seconds, 3 sets of scapular shrugs, 100 pushups (40/20/20/10/10), 1 minute straight arm planks (left/right/regular) with dips or arm/leg raises in last 15-30 seconds, 1 minute flutter kicks, and 3 sets of side holds from the bars.
I changed the workout to be more focused on a muscle up progression. Let’s see if this helps me progress faster.
After my workout, I had a cup of coffee and some granola and then drove to Europcar to renew the car rental from Dec 9-15. Even though we already booked online via rentalcars.com, I still needed to go into the Europcar office to close the old contract and open the new one. I also needed to add the toll pass. (Cost: 12.92 EUR to add toll pass. Already paid 54.02 EUR for the rental car via rentalcars.com yesterday. So, total is 66.94 EUR or about 11 EUR/day)
Once I renewed the car rental, I drove back to the apartment, grabbed my surf gear, and drove to Porto Mos to check the surf. The right side of the beach looked decent with 3-4 foot waves and little wind. However, it was really crowded and the low tide meant the submerged rocks were closer to the surface.
I climbed into my wetsuit, grabbed my board and surfed for about an hour and a half. I had a good session and caught some nice rights. Unfortunately, I rode one too far into shore and dinged my board on a submerged rock. It was a small ding but enough to let water seep in. So, I caught one more wave and then got out.
Since the ding is small I think I’ll do a temporary repair and take it to the shop later.
Back at the apartment, Bi made a nice lunch of garlic chicken fried rice with eggs. It was perfect after a cold surf session.
In the evening, I went to Vertical Bouldering gym with Saul and climbed for a few hours. (Cost: 7 EUR) It was as fun as the first time. They seem to have a consistently friendly and welcoming vibe. The routes are challenging and they change each section on rotation every 4 months to keep it interesting.
Meanwhile, Bi met up with Sylvia and went to dinner at A Barrigada. We had been told by a boat captain that they had excellent seafood. Bi said it was good but she was not overly impressed. (Cost: 20 EUR)
