Yesterday we rented Via Ferrata kits from Finca La Campana El Chorro and did our first Via Ferrata! The 3-4 hour route climbs steeply up the front of a crag called Frontales and includes a zip line between two peaks and then two exposed wire bridge crossings between other peaks to get to the summit. I found it quite fun and exhilarating, especially the zip line! Check out the video below!
It was a great break from rock climbing and I would highly recommend it for those comfortable and knowledgeable enough to do a via ferrata safely on their own. There was one couple ahead of us that was not very familiar with the equipment and the gentleman actually grabbed the wire line while zip lining which could have resulted in a bad hand injury. They also almost jumped without locking their carabiner to the tandem pulley which would have been very unsafe. Fortunately, they asked us to check it for them and we caught the mistake before they went. However, that is quite scary. So, I only recommend doing this trip if you can do it safely!
