Day 15 (Wednesday, October 13, 2021)

Costs for the Day are in the Table below:

Today, we slept in late, got up and had coffee and Bi cooked a wonderful breakfast of eggs, sausage, and toast. Then we packed up some water and towels and showed Andy and Joey around the town.

First we stopped at Igrejo de Santo Antonio (Anthony of Padua). St. Anthony was a Portuguese Catholic Priest and Franciscan Friar who is said to have performed many miracles. The walls of the church depict the miracles of St Anthony including one that shows a boy who had cut off his foot and Anthony is re-attaching the severed appendage. The story is that the unruly boy had kicked his mother and when he came to St. Anthony, Anthony told him that the foot that had injured his mother should be cut off. The boy left feeling guilty and on his way home he took an axe and chopped off his foot. The mother took her son back to St. Anthony begging him to help and the legend is that St. Anthony performed a miracle and healed the severed foot.

The church is very ornate and decorated in the Baroque style. The interior is carved in wood and then painted over with gold leaf. The cost is 1.5 EUR normally but since we are now residents, it is free. We just showed a digital copy of our lease.

Then we showed them Lagos Castle and the Fort of Nossa Senhora da Penha de França which was built between 1680 and 1690 and was one of the most advanced fortresses in the Algarve at the time. The Fort is located at the point where the Bensafrim River meets the Atlantic Ocean. It has only one entrance and is surrounded by a moat with a drawbridge. It was built for artillery battles and has very thick walls on the side facing the sea. There is a small cost of entry, I think 1 EUR but it was free for us since we are residents of Lagos now.

From there, we hiked along the cliffs to see the beaches – Praia do Batata/Pinhau/Dona Ana/ Camilo.

At Praia do Camilo we relaxed and sunbathed for a while and cooled our feet in the ocean.

Then we hiked back to downtown Lagos for some delicious bagels at Pom Pom Bagels. I had the meat bagel and Bi had the veggie bagel. They were both fantastic as was the Apple Baccardi drink. Cost: 11 Euros but Andy and Joey bought us the Apple drink.

After lunch, we headed over to Cinemas Lagoshopping to watch No Time To Die. Cost 10 Euros for 2 Tickets. I loved the movie!! So good! I am almost never disappointed with a Bond movie.

After the movie, Andy and Joey took us out to eat at Casinha Do Petisco for some Portuguese food! The clams and prawns were family style and fantastic! Thank you Andy and Joey!

Not a bad day!
