Day 28 (Tuesday, October 26, 2021)

Today I woke up at 7:15am and made a breakfast of French Toast with Honey and a coffee. Then I packed up my surf gear and headed over to Jah Shaka Surf Shop to catch a Beach Transfer (Cost: 25 EUR paid on Day 26). They picked up up at 9am and we drove to Praia das Cabana Valhas where which was the same spot we surfed last time. It’s a nice beach but there are a lot of submerged rocks in the water and large pebbles that bounce around when the waves lap against the shore and bang into your feet as you walk into the water.
The last time, we surfed on the left hand side of the beach near the cliff and the rocky point. (Top Right Photo Above) Over there, the rocks are easier to see but there weren’t any waves on that side today.
This time, we surfed on the right side of the beach since the waves were breaking much better in that area. (Lower Right Photo Above) However, in this spot, the waves are breaking over submerged rocks that are scattered around under the water. The waves were also breaking close to shore which made for a challenging situation in terms of avoiding the rocks.
Unfortunately, I ended up scraping my board on one of the rocks which you can see in the photo on the left. I also smashed up my foot a bit.
On the positive side, Tristan, one of the guys that was out with the surf school offered to let me borrow his soft top long board. He had banged up his ribs over the weekend and had decided to sit out the rest of the day. The soft top long board was perfect for the conditions and I had a great time with it. Thanks Tristan!
After surfing, we ate lunch on the beach and then the Tiny Whale Surf School instructor dropped me off at the Magic Board Center which was on the way back and where they were able to give me a quote to fix my board. You can see the prices for repairs posted here on their website which is probably the most transparent price list for board repairs that I have ever seen so I took a photo and posted it below as well. They were super nice and professional. They quoted a rough 45-55 EUR for the repair since they estimated it to be a Large rail hole but they said they would only be able to confirm once the repair guy reviews it in detail. They will call me to let me know the final price and they said it would take about a week to repair.
After dropping off my board, I walked home, showered, and then headed over to the print shop FrenteyVersa to print out our D7 paperwork. I had 151 pages to print in a mixture of color and black and white so I brought it on a flash drive. They plugged it in and printed all the various files out in about 30 minutes. I also bought two A4 envelopes and some post it notes. (Cost: 0.60 EUR/Page for Color, 0.10 EUR/Page for Black & White, 0.5 EUR per A4 Envelope, and 0.75 EUR for sticky notes – Total: 23.85 EUR). I think that is pretty reasonable.
On the way home, I picked up some Page Markers from a shop called ATAL which I cannot seem to find on google. Anyway, their prices were not so reasonable and I paid 2.4 EUR for the Page Markers.
Once back at home, I cooked up some burgers with tomatoes, edam cheese, and BBQ sauce.
I wish I hadn’t damaged my board or paid too much for some crappy Page Markers but it was a fun day overall and I caught a bunch of waves so I was happy.
