Day 58 (Thursday, November 25, 2021)

Costs for the Day are in the Table below:

I woke up around 7:15am today and had a warm cup of coffee. Bi made a breakfast of eggs, sausage, tomatoes, toast with Brie and mixed berry jam with cranberries, and oranges. It was fantastic!

Then we ran over to Millennium Bank to get there at 8:10am so that we could be first in line when they open at 8:30am. We were successful and got the first ticket! So exciting.

I needed to get a new bank card since mine was taken by the ATM in Luz. If you get your PIN wrong 3 times at the ATM it will actually take your card and not release it. You have to go to the main bank within 24 hours to try and get it back. It’s crazy. I can see why it would make sense to block your account until you call in or something but taking your card seems unnecessary and the process for getting it back is bureaucratic and time consuming. Since I did not go to the main bank within 24 hours they will send me a new card which apparently takes 4 weeks. While we were at the bank we checked the PIN for Bi’s card to avoid the same issue. To make things more confusing, there is a PIN for your online bank account access and for your ATM and they are not the same.

We also asked some more questions on our Medis Health Insurance to clarify a few points.

Then we went to the pharmacy to pick up some prescriptions. (Cost: 76.84 EUR for 4 month supply without insurance coverage) In the US the same prescriptions would cost over $500 USD without insurance.

In the evening, we biked over to our friend’s house for a Thanksgiving Dinner Party which was so much fun. Everyone brought a dish and it ended up being quite a large spread. Bi and I made cucumber and spinach salad with cranberries, nuts, and tomatoes as well as grilled spiced cheesy bread and mulled wine. It was a fantastic meal and great conversation.
