Day 61 (Sunday, November 28, 2021)

Costs for the Day are in the Table below:

I woke up at 8am and had a coffee and a snack. Then I biked over to Hiper China to return a few items from yesterday. (Credit: 18.35 EUR) I was a little too gung ho with my decoration buying.

Afterwards, I pedaled to Intermarche to pick up some pastries to bring to brunch. (Cost: 5.04 USD)

Then I went back to the apartment, packed up my surf gear and walked over to the bus stop to catch the #47 Eva bus to Espiche. Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication with the bus driver since I said I needed to go to Luz which is next to Espiche. So he said he wasn’t going there and I did not get on the bus.

Here is the 47 Bus Route I was trying to Take

After the conversation, I realized my mistake and since the next bus was not until the afternoon, I booked an Uber to Espiche. (Cost 7.28 EUR)

I arrived at Sophie and Romain’s house at around 11 am. They are renting a cute little white house with blue trim in Espiche. The dining/living room is flooded with sunlight in the morning so it’s warm and bright and made for a nice place to have brunch. I brought the pastries and they had made seaweed dumplings which were delicious, sliced pears, fresh squeezed orange juice, and some kind of small potato or starchy tuber.

After breakfast, I helped with the dishes and then we packed up the car and drove out to the west coast near Sagres. Praia do Tonel was about 3-5 feet but mostly close out or blown out.

So, we checked Beliche which has cliffs encircling the beach and extending out into the ocean especially on the north side so it was much more sheltered from the wind. The waves were small and breaking close to shore but generally good for long boarding.

It was a bit crowded and not the best for me on the short board but Sophie and Romain brought long boards so we decided to give it a go. I actually caught quite a few waves but they were fairly short since they broke so close to shore. It was a fun session and the beach is beautiful.

After surfing, we hiked back up the stairs to the car and Sophie and Romain dropped me off back in Lagos.

In the evening, Bi and I had date night so I made reservations at Luca’s Rooftop which sits atop the Carvi Beach Hotel overlooking Praia Dona Ana. I had the beef stroganoff and an espresso martini and Bi had the sea bream and a cranberry mojito. We had the tuna tartar and garlic prawns for appetizers. The food and drinks were good and the service was excellent (but we ate at 6pm which is considered very early here so there was almost nobody at the restaurant yet).

After dinner, we played pool in the downstairs lobby of the Carvi Beach Hotel, played some bossa nova music, and danced by ourselves. It was a lot of fun and the lobby was completely empty since November is the off season.

Here is Bi celebrating her win over me in pool!

After pool, we strolled along the cliffs at night and back to downtown Lagos and our apartment.

When we got back though, I realized I forgot my backpack with my favorite water bottle! What a bummer! So Bi and I biked all the way back to the hotel to pick it up. Thank you Bi for keeping me company on the bike ride!! It was on the chair by the pool table exactly where I left it.
